Black Drum Can’t Resist This Lure & Scent Combo

http://how%20to%20catch%20black%20drum

It’s such a tease when you find a massive school of fish and they don’t eat anything you throw at them…

This was the scenario I found myself in for almost an entire week when I stumbled upon these black drum.

But when I tried throwing something new at them, I hooked up right away!

Watch the video below to see what lure and scent I was using to land the massive black drum pictured above.

And here’s a list of the equipment that I was using for this catch:

When I first found this school of black drum, they wouldn’t eat anything I threw at them.

But when I tried the Power Prawn with Dr. Juice, I got a bite right away!

All I did was spray on the Dr. Juice, toss the Power Prawn rigged on a weedless jig head into the middle of the school, slowly drag it back to the boat, then it was on like Donkey Kong!

I didn’t need to work the lure a special way, all I did was put scent on it and get it in front of their face.

Have any questions about getting picky black drum to eat?

Luke, I slowed the video down to see what size hook and weight you were using. This hook looks like it has a bullet-shaped weight. Is that correct? I don’t see a twist-lock that SaltStrong sells with a bullet-shaped weight.

Are Black drum good to eat? Do they taste as good as red drum?

They are very good eating, especially in the 10-15 lb range. Nice white meat. When they get much larger they tend to get a little wormy. They still taste good, but you have to cut the worms out and get past the idea that they were there. 🙂

Also, bleed them ASAP after catching them by cutting the throat until you reach the main vein. This keeps the meat white and tasty. Black drum have a reputation as a trash fish, but it is one of the best tasting fish you will ever eat.

Nice fish, Luke!

The Power Prawn is awesome. I have not been able to get my hands on Dr. Juice, yet. Pro-Cure Super Gel Shrimp works on them great, though. It lasts a long time. I can see the red color the next day after fishing it all day with one application the day before. My wife caught a 17.5 flounder (post coming) on a Power Prawn and she has even had a Power Prawn bit in half. A first for us.
