On-The-Water Action
Once we got out on the water, it was pretty obvious that we were missing about 3-3.5 feet of water.
Low water levels create more hazards for us kayak anglers that try to fish in super skinny water with oysters and rocks.
Our first stop was to a deeper hole we knew would hold some fish.
After reeling in a few trout and small redfish, we had to make a move because the water was getting super low.
To the point where we had to jump out of our kayaks and look for a way out!
Not only that, but the fog was thick on this day severely lowering our visibility.
At this point, I threw on a topwater lure and started to get some strikes.
The tide was slowly starting to move back in as well.
There was no shortage of bait around us.
A few casts with the Strike King KVD Wake Bait and a beautiful 28-inch redfish couldn’t resist taking it!
Then a solid trout came along and swallowed the same lure.
We then came up on some awesome looking oyster bars and an area I thought should hold some nice fish.
I even said out loud, “I bet one of us finds a trout in here that’s 20 inches.”
A few fish later, I hooked into the best trout of the day.
After a bit of a struggle to get it into the net, I landed a GATOR trout.
That was the fish we were looking for!!
It was then that the tide really started to come in and cover some of the grass lines and spoil islands.
All in all, this was a VERY SOLID trip and we caught some awesome fish.
Low tides and even negative tides pose a major obstacle but you’ve just got to know what to look for.

Awesome video Matt… Always enjoy watching with the thrills and fun catching the fish!
Matt, your videos are great, so much fun. But I got to call you out on your measurement – that nice red was 27″ on the money, not 28″! LOL
Haha! You aren’t the first to say that about that measurement! Lol
I still have the pictures I took on my phone, and you are correct, with the tail laying naturally flat it is 27+, HOWEVER, with a pinched tail, like I do in tournaments, that fish does make it to 28 inches, with the pictures to confirm it.
I really appreciate the comment Thomas! Love a little bit of healthy jabbing! Lol. I can take it. Haha
Thanks a bunch for watching!
LOL!! That may be the best fishing video I have ever watched. I love that you don’t cut out the real things that happen on a fishing trip. Great video. I do have a question for you. I know you use the Cashion element rod often in the the medium power. Do you ever have problems with hook set on weedless plastics? Thanks again for all the great videos and information.
Hey Robert!
I love my Cashion Element, but to be honest I havent used it for weedless plastics much. I use the 7 foot M version and it has a more moderate action. I know Pat uses the MH version so maybe he can give some insight there as well.
Thanks for watching!
