The Day I Got Cancer (How To Create A New Life)
By: Joseph Simonds on August 23, 2019
“Once you can see bad things as blessings, everything changes.”
Can you do that?
Think about a tough time in your life that you’ve gotten through.
Has anything good come out of that bad situation?
Here’s my story:
When I was 28 I got diagnosed with Melanoma.
At the time I thought I was on top of the world…
I had a nice house, great career, two cars and was living it up.
But here’s the thing…
I wasn’t happy.
I bought an expensive house to impress others and overcompensate for my insecurities and anxiety…
I wasn’t challenged in my career, nor was it what I was called to do…
And I was living in Georgia alone while all my family was still down in Florida.
Not to mention I wasn’t doing much saltwater fishing in Atlanta…
When I got diagnosed with cancer I thought it was the end of the world, but in reality, so much good has come from it.
If I hadn’t got cancer I would have:
- Never met my wife and had our three beautiful children
- Never found my purpose
- Kept chasing unfulfilling worldly things
- Never started Salt Strong

30 Day Challenge To Create A New Life
I was talking to a friend the other day about how I’ve got Salt Strong, am raising my family and have even started writing another book, and he asked me this:
“How do you do it? How do you do so much, but are so happy?”
Besides the fact that I’m living out my purpose (listen to this episode for more on that), I’ve been doing one thing every morning that has helped me really feel like I have momentum in life and has made me very happy:
Every morning I spend an hour working on myself, or doing something that gives me joy.
So here’s my challenge to you:
For 30 days, cut out TV, news, sports, and extra entertainment that gives you a rush of happiness, yet is actually unfulfilling.
Instead of wasting that time on unfulfilling things, spend an hour a day working on something that gives you joy.
For instance, I’ve been writing my new book.
Most of the complaints I’ve been hearing from other poeple have been about being unfilled with your life or your job, and if that’s you I highly recommend journaling.
Write down (in detail) what your dream life would look like.
What would your dream job be?
How would you impact the world?
Who are you serving?
You could also work on rebuilding your relationship with a loved one, or your faith.
Just work on or write about something that is truly fulfilling.
If you spend an hour a day working on this for the next 30 days, I can almost guarantee your life will be completely changed.
Also, I want to hear about the transformation you go through as you do this.
Feel free to email me at email@example.com and tell me about how your life has been changed through this 30-day challenge.
In the moment, a hard time can seem like the end of the world.
But looking back at my life, every “speed bump” has lead to something much better than I could have ever dreamed of.
If I hadn’t gotten cancer I would have never met my wife and started our family…
I would have been chasing unfulfilling, worldly riches…
And Salt Strong would have never happened.
Are you going through a tough time right now?
I know it’s hard, but if you have faith and see bad things as blessings, everything changes.
