How To Get Paid To Fish In College (Legally) With Tyler Anderson

A few years ago somebody sent us this bass fishing parody video of the Taylor Swift song, “Blank Space,” by this guy Tyler Anderson.
We shared it on our blog and Facebook and, of course, it got tons of shares!
The lyrics are hilarious and Tyler actually has a good singing voice, which makes the whole thing even funnier.
You can watch the video below, but just a warning, this song will get stuck in your head…

Now, fast forward four years and I actually got to meet Tyler at ICAST and was blown away by him.
Tyler is still crushing it on YouTube, all other social media channels, and in life in general, so we just had to bring him on the podcast.
In this episode he shares:
- The state of bass fishing teams in high school and college (you won’t believe how popular and competitive they are)
- Why he stayed in college when he had an opportunity to leave and do YouTube full time
- Why he’s choosing relationships over views (this is when this young guy really impressed me!)
- How his family and friends hold him accountable to present himself well
- How to handle negative comments on social media (Here’s a quote: “You need to have thick skin and a soft heart”)
- What it’s like being a Christian in the fishing and social media world
- How he’s making money on YouTube (dealing with sponsors, freelancing gigs, etc)
You can listen to this episode by clicking the play button below, or on iTunes, Stitcher, or Spotify.
Enjoy!
P.S. We reference a lot of his videos in the podcast, which you can watch on this page if you scroll down.

I love how Tyler is using his passion for fishing and creativity to make a living for himself, but I’m mostly impressed at his maturity and level-headedness in this social media crazy world.
