Fishing Hooks: Everything You Need To Know (Brands, Sizes, Types)

There are hundreds, if not thousands of options to choose from when picking out saltwater fishing hooks.

Some are better than others, some are only good in some scenarios, and some are even illegal!

Your hook is the only piece of equipment that’s actually touching the fish, so it’s super important in regards to landing fish.

In this live podcast episode we’ve got the Salt Strong fishing coaches talking about and answering questions regarding fishing hooks.

Here are just a few of the topics we cover:

  • The best weedless hooks and jig heads
  • Which hooks to use with which lures
  • The best hook brands
  • Hook colors, sizes, and styles
  • J hooks vs circle hooks
  • How to rig different types of hooks
  • Legal vs illegal hooks
  • And much more

I’d definitely recommend watching the video version of this podcast below (we show a lot of different types of hooks), but you can also listen to the audio version by clicking the play button underneath it, or listen to it on iTunes, Stitcher, or Spotify.

Ironically I stopped using inline circles due to gut or gill hookup ratios compared to offsets. Nothing rusts faster then an owner hook, very high cost hook that disappeared before the next fishing trip. Vmc last longer but the gauge of wire sucks, mustard imo are the best

Great podcast on hooks. Cleared up a lot of unknowns for me. Could use some references like put hooks on backgrounds that clearly demo the shapes and next to rulers and suggest ruler sizes for target species as manufacurer’s sizes are not uniform. Thanks again.
