The Moonwalker SBD topwater lure is a MUST-HAVE for anglers in the summertime.
It excels in extremely calm conditions that other topwater lures wouldn’t.
It is so common to get out on the water in the summer and everything is flat calm and clear.
Most topwater plugs these days have very loud rattles in them.
Rattles are great when the water is churned up a bit.
But, when conditions are calm, you need a finesse presentation.
Especially if you are fishing in high-pressure zones.

Luke, may sound like a dumb question, but what range of depths do these plugs work well in?
Great information about when to use the different moonwalkers
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment!
Thanks for helping me understand when to use my SBD vs. standard moonwalker. It’s all about the conditions. Appreciate the guidance
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Chad!
What is the best rod type to use with these? Either my rod action is too stiff, or I don’t have the twitch action right. I am not getting the action I see in your videos. I am fishing from a sit on top Cuda 12′, and I am not stable enough to stand. So, working from a low on the water seated position. Any input or recommendations is much appreciated.
A fast or moderate fast action rod blank is best for getting the walk the dog motion.
Being seated is ok. The key is to simply use quick and sharp twitching movements with a pause in between the twitches.
great info thanks Luke
Glad to see that you enjoyed this video!
Gotta get that SBD!
I now use it just as much (if not more) than the regular Moonwalker now that most mornings have had calm water.
New to inshore fishing as I have to drive at least 5 hrs to get to the South TX shores, my question: with the recent hurricane, how much does that affect the inshore fishing? Down around Port O’Connor, they got lucky but up around Freeport, not so much…I figured the Port area would probably be ok to visit, but not sure about visiting Freeport any time soon?
The bite is usually good after big storms due you’re changing pressure and the fact that a lot of runoff water pulls food out into the rivers/bays.
GREAT
thanks Luke
I have an aluminum boat and I am finding out that I have to be extremely careful to keep from bumping anything and spooking fish.
Yes, it’s smart to be extra stealthy when fishing fr M an aluminum boat:
