FISHING CONSERVATION: Why it feels like NOTHING ever changes

Have you ever felt like fishing conservation efforts for our waterways never seem to improve or see quick changes?

You aren’t alone…

I took the entire month of July off to dive deep into books about fishing, conservation, waterways, habitat, and more.

I was shocked to see just how tough it is to get anything done (mostly because our own government and big corporations are working against us anglers).

Listen in as I share some of the BIG takeaways (and where we go next).

Fired up huh? Nice to hear a bit of raw passion come out. Clean water is where it starts. The opportunity to begin to make a difference is right here, right now. Many of the River Keepers in Florida have signed on, as have other organizations throughout the state. If the initiative to place a constitutional amendment on the 2024 ballot is successful, and then passes in a Florida statewide vote. It will set the example for all the other states with clean water issues. Synergy, every little bit counts. Looking forward to hearing from people passionate about Clean Water, who are making a difference. Time to take the power out of the politicians hands, and put it in ours.

Joe, if you really want to make an impact in our backyard go after Pinellas County! The pier at the end of Pass-A-Grille has been closed for repair since 2016. This isn’t a quarter mile pier like Clearwater Pier but more like 25 yards. Why can’t they fix it? The county tore down the three piers that were along the jedi of Sand Key two years ago and have yet to begin replacing them. I called the parks department of Pinellas County and the analyst told me that it wasn’t in the budget. The county or the city of Clearwater charges something like 6 dollars per car for parking so there is an income stream coming in for those parks yet they won’t replace the piers. The real estate in the area is going through the roof and there is so much property tax money coming in but the county/city refuses to reinvest in the piers!
