For this demonstration, I am using 60lb Ande Monofilament leader.
I’ve used 40lb for this trick but 50lb to 60lb is the sweet spot.
First, take the end of the leader and line that up with the head of the jighead and the tip of the hook.
Once you get the length, cut the piece of line at a 45-degree angle.
The reason for cutting at an angle is to create a point so the line can penetrate the lure.
Next, take the pointed end of the leader and insert that into the head of the lure.
We want to make sure the leader will stay in the lure and it will protect the top of the hook.
Now any weeds or grass that are in the way will deflect off of the plastic leader.
This works on just about any type of jighead as long as you are fishing with soft plastic lures.
Keep in mind that this is NOT a permanent solution.
This will not work as well as a permanent weedless setup.
However, this will help you if you’re in a pinch.
