To increase the distance of your skip cast, make sure to slowly raise up your fishing rod as the lure travels away from you.

This will make sure the line stays out of the water reducing friction.

In turn, your lure travels farther where those big fish might be hiding.

Especially as the weather gets colder, those fish will push deeper into the mangroves for warmth and protection.

Practice your skip casts now before winter hits so you’re ready to reel in those fish.

Thank You Pat! This will definitely improve by casts as I had not considered that line drag detail.

Good tip, but way too brief and only useful for someone already skip casting who may be less likely to need this tip.

Wow! Great tip! Going outside to practice right now.

That slow-motion footage really shows how the line wants to fall into the water.

After joining Salt Strong I’ve gotten better at skipping lures. My confidence level is just not there yet. I mostly come up short of the target. One thing you just pointed out that makes so much sense is to lift the rod up after casting to keep the line out of the water. I can’t wait to practice that. Thank you!

Excellent tip Pat. No mangroves here in Alabama, but docks, brush and fallen trees hold a lot of fish. This will be most helpful.
