Do Cold Wintertime Temperatures Impact The Bite? [Topwater VS. Twitchbaits]

Topwater vs. Twitchbait.

Insider Member Greg Brown and I conducted a little experiment on our last trip out together.

Will the cooler winter temperatures impact the bite?

What lure style will come out on top with more strikes?

Take a look at the entire experiment below!!

Lures That Caught Fish:

I had the NEW Greenback Moonwalker tied on while Greg was throwing a Live Target Scaled Sardine Twitchbait.

We saw pods of baitfish being chased and pushed up against a shoreline.

Greg and I tossed out our baits in that general direction.

One of the biggest struggles in wintertime is locating the bait.

Usually, the wind pushes water out of areas and that takes the bait along with it.

The fish we’re targeting are following the bait.

It might take covering more water than at other times of the year, but if you find the bait, you’ll find the fish.

The two styles of bait got the job done on this trip with tons of strikes all around.

Slowing down our retrieves for both lures got the most bites.

There is not enough evidence to declare a true winner here.

But, what you need to take away from this trip is to slow down your retrieves in the cooler months.

It is less about lure choice and more about finding the right spots.

Finding those areas is incredibly easy with our Smart Fishing Spots App.

It literally follows the fish around and gives you every single tool you need to locate high-quality fishing zones in your local waters.

Topwater WILL work in the wintertime!

You’ve got to be in the right place at the right time.

That’s being in the 90/10 Zone.

Great video! Movement on the lures was a huge factor. And that green color really got them coming back for more.

Yea I noticed you never mentioned how long that deal os going for because I know its no 10 bucks a month thing considering whenni joined way back in 2017 it was 100 bucks a month then in 2018 they put out a deal to become a life member at just under a grand if you paid tge whole thing at once otherwise they had a 3 month payment plan for 333 per month which came out to be 1164 dollars that’s the deal I took because at that time I could not afford a grand for a fishing club and most members couldn’t either so I have been a life member since 2018 buy speaking of your report I have used both of those lures successfully but usually foe topwaters when the water temps dip below 55 drgrees I stop using then so I guess my question to you is what was the water temp on this particular trip? It’s funny that I ask this to because in the report that Joe and Luke did on finding trout under the winter they talk about water temp and how important it is but what’s so funny is way back in 17 when I first joined I asked Luke on a report he did on what the water temp was and his response was he never checks the water temp because he never really thought it matters? But now he does anyways I always have thought it was important because to be successful in inshore fishing you need to find or at least as close as possible your target species comfort temp because that’s what they like and feed best in anyways thanks for the info and all you do😉👍
