We’ve got the tools to help you fish nearshore reefs the EASY way!!!
Although we do a lot of inshore saltwater fishing, summertime provides unique opportunities to hit nearshore reefs and structures for red snapper, grouper, and all sorts of pelagic species.
On a recent trip, I got into a bunch of American red snapper so I wanted to share that report with you and show you how easy it was to find these reefs using our Smart Fishing Spots platform.

The Smart Fishing Spots platform allows you to access critical data right at your fingertips.
You might be familiar with the Windy App amongst a bunch of other apps you use to plan fishing trips.
Over the years, I’ve used a ton of different apps to try and get that edge before hitting the water.
The Smart Fishing Spots platform is an all-in-one stop that combines all the data you need and more to catch fish in less time.
During the summertime, we have the opportunity to hit nearshore and offshore reefs to fish those deeper zones with cooler water.
Instead of trying to find reefs and figure out depths on your boat equipment, Smart Fishing Spots does it all for you.
With the click of a button, all the artificial and natural reefs will pop up on your phone indicating instant hotspots.
This cuts down so much time so you don’t have to endlessly search open water for some structure.
I recently took my kayak out into the Gulf to a nearshore reef so I could catch some red snapper for myself.
If you really enjoy nearshore and offshore fishing but don’t want to waste time searching for quality spots, then this software is the ideal fit for you.
On-The-Water Action
We launched right off the beach on a perfect morning and I could smell the fish as we got closer to the reefs.
I started off throwing bonito strips that I caught on a previous trip.
I got the skunk off the boat after making a quick drift but it was not the target species.
Through Smart Fishing Spots, I was able to mark the reefs I wanted to hit and parked myself right on top of them.
I finally hooked into a red snapper and it was keeper size but I let it go in hopes of hooking into a bigger fish.
Later on, we noticed some commotion near the surface.
Turns out, it was a bunch of mahi chasing after the bait right below our kayaks.
So we tied on some rigs to try and catch these fish.
We did hook into several small mahi but nothing too big – still this was so much fun!
A bit later, I hooked into my keeper snapper and got him in the cooler to prepare for that evening’s dinner.
After putting that fish on ice, I dropped down another line and finally got the hit I was waiting all day for.
A couple of cranks in and, unfortunately, I lost the fish.
It was peeling drag and eventually it spit the hook.

Matt, glad you made it back to shore safely. We can’t afford to lose you. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you fish in water deeper than four feet.
Robert ( Guest ), There are numerous on-line videos that detail wade fishing, pier fishing, beach fishing, etc from the club once you’re a member. Also, there are videos by some of the coaches on the web. If you join the real benefit is the insider club which gives you unlimited access to a host of things. Recently, Salt Strong has been developing local chapters which give you the opportunity to meet up with other members. These new friendships might afford you the opportunity to join them on their vessel. Currently there are about 10 chapters located in different areas of the country. I’m in the process of working with the organization to create a chapter closer to me. Eventually they will have them all over. I hesitated to join originally but now that I’m a member I don’t know why I waited.
For the record, I am not an employee or a robot and none of this was meant to offend. I am just a very satisfied member who encourages my friends to join. I encourage you to join.
Thanks so much for the kind words Dennis! We appreciate the kind words and all of the support!
What if you aren’t lucky enough to have a yak or a boat of any kind but that’s all you seem to talk about as if fishing from shore doesn’t exist
