If you’re coming from spin fishing, you’re probably used to tying an FG or a double uni knot to connect your line to leader.
But fly fishing lines are a little different.
Both the leader and the line have loops on the end.
So how do you connect these two?
With a handshake knot.

Connecting your fly line to leader is actually really easy.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Get the leader out of the package and untangle it
Step 2: Take the fly line and slide it through the loop of the leader
Step 3: Create a loop in the leader and thread it through the loop of the fly line
Step 4: Pull the tag end of the leader through the loop of the line
Pa-POW — you’ve got yourself a handshake knot.
Conclusion
Connecting your line to leader with fly fishing lines is a lot easier than with spinning line.
All you have to do is tie a handshake knot and you’re done!
