Powerfishing Strategies At High Tide [What To Look For]

I was out testing my powerfishing strategies at high tide in a completely new area.

Fish often push into areas with tall grass during high tide but the challenge is finding them and getting them to eat.

This video showcases a few strategies I consistently rely on to catch fish during high tide in tall grass.

On-The-Water Action

When the tide starts coming in, so should YOU.

I was patrolling the grass lines and saw some bait pop up and hit the surface.

I threw the Wake Bait right over in that area and it was immediately clobbered.

With the tide coming in, I continued powerfishing the grass lines picking up fish as I went along.

Just as I hooked into one of the biggest fish I saw to this point in the day, it broke off the line.

A monster redfish broke the line and took my lure!

I tied on another Wake Bait and continued to buzz the grass lines against the heavy winds.

Not long after that another big redfish came up and slurped down the Wake Bait.

And it broke off one of the hooks on the treble and bent out another!!

That is why I highly recommend you change out the hooks on the Wake Bait out of the package.

The reasons for getting a ton of strikes in this area are due to broken bottom structure next to tall grass coming out from a small feeder creek.

This is an excellent recipe for high tide fishing.

I kept throwing the Wake Bait over the bottom structure to trigger those bites.

Once the sun got up, I broke out the secret weapon – the Skinny Lipper!

This is the perfect bait for those fish that are willing to strike topwater but need a little nudge.

The Skinny Lipper agitates fish enough to trigger aggressive strikes.

Yea I tried the wake bait a few times with no luck in exactly the kind of areas you just mentioned and I tried the skinny lipped today at a place that’s dear to my heart called faver dykes state park via pelicer creek area about 38 miles south of jacksonville via 95 south had a few followers and 1 blowup by what I thought was a small snook but she missed it but the rain here in northeast fl has really effected at least my fishing abilities because I only speak for me gonna try it one more time tomorrow at millcove and im sure it will rain but we will see thanks for the info and all you do

excellent as always. hey, i always am hoping to see how you work the baits. It might be a good idea to always include footage of how you’re working the baits with a description. That’s one of the first things us learners wonder about. you’re vids are great👍👍👍

Matt, I live near the upper Wando in Charleston. The water turns slightly brackish, but the redfish are still up here. Would these lures work well up here, or would you recommend an artificial shrimp?

Fun report Matt! I love my Tatula reel. Hoping the weather improves this weekend so I can try the Skinny Lipper.
