PIT Tags stand for Passive Intergrated Transponder, so basically it is a rice grained barcode inserted into the fish. Most states have PIT Tag arrays for detecting migratory fish. I know in North Carolina we have them in or rivers and sounds for Sturgeon, Shad and Stripers. North Carolina also releases Stripers and they do DNA samples before releases and then can do fin clips to do capture recapture studies and that has been a big deal in population, survival, recruitment estimates on top of the pit tagging. This is awesome great job guys.
