This trip provides example after example of what textbook fall fishing zones look like.
I was able to reel in an inshore slam just by finding spots with similar features that indicate feeding fish in the fall.

The spots I chose to fish on this trip are all thanks to the hotspots feature within the Smart Fishing Spots app.
In the spring and fall, you’ll start to see bigger trout stage in similar areas to redfish.
The bigger fish are smarter and know where to find bait and escape routes.
You’ll notice that I continuously retrieve the topwater lure even as the fish comes up to take a swipe at it.
Continue to walk the dog on your topwater lure retrieve until you feel the tension of the fish in the line.
I later switched over to subsurface soft plastic lures like the F.R.E.D. BOMBER with some Dr. Juice (as always) and immediately starting to crush fish.
Then I tossed on the dartspin presentation to try and land my inshore slam.
Not too much later, I picked up a really nice flounder to round out the fall slam!
Then, pandemonium set in when a massive school of redfish appeared right next to me.
The anchor would not cooperate but I was able to pluck off a decent fish from the school.
Smart Fishing Spots App
The Smart Fishing Spots App helped me find the spots I fished on this trip and lock into the trends.
The Smart Spots feature within the app shows you pre-selected fishing hotspots that local guides and experts have marked off.
Not only that, but the spots change colors to reflect the changing conditions so you can fish at the optimal time.
Furthermore, we as move into the early stages of winter and late fall, oyster bars become increasingly important for inshore anglers.
Oyster bars act as makeshift space heaters for fish when temperatures cool down.
The Smart Fishing Spots App has an Oyster Bar layer that literally shows you the exact location of the oysters in any area.
Fall Fishing Lures
The fish were absolutely dialed in on the F.R.E.D. BOMBER lure on this trip.
A F.R.E.D. BOMBER rigged on a Hoss Helix Hook is one of my favorite fall fishing presentations.
The larger profile mimics the bait currently present in the water and the fish are targeting bigger meals to satisfy their appetites.
As always, I apply Dr. Juice Saltwater Slam Scent to every single soft plastic lure that I throw.
It gives you that needed edge to trigger reaction strikes from hungry fish.
Conclusion
Right now is one of the best times to fish all year long.
The fish are in predictable, textbook fall fishing zones that you can easily identify by following the bait and looking for oyster bars.
If you don’t know where to start, then start with fishing around oyster bars!!!
Big baits are the ticket right now!

Matt, this is awesome. Way to slay like usual!
Hi Matt,
May I ask what kind and size landing net you were using in this video? In the market for a better landing net. Does that one fold?
Thank you
Dennis
Hey Dennis! It’s a folding net from bass pro. You can find it with an easy search on their site. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Is there hard fishing months of spring, summer, fall and winter?
Are the seasons controlled by the sun light, water temperature, both sun and temperature or something else?
PS
I have to admit, I was a bit confused for a moment with half my attention gone elsewhere.
I was listening, not watching the video, multitasking on the computer. When I heard “red bomber”. The image of a (Bomber) the hard minnow bait popped in to my head. I had not seen red bomber before. I had to go back to the video’s image. Doing so, I was able to see the F.R.E.D Bomber was being used.
I see the F.R.E.D. Bomber’s color as pink and not red.
Am I alone here or is the F.R.E.D color red?
Hey Andrew! FRED is pink in color and stands for Fooling Redfish Every Day.
The bite can depend more on current than anything else. The other factors do play in but in less of a way all year. The other factors are often situational.
Thanks for watching!
Matt,
This will be my final response of this thread.
In your opinion, Matt Lanier, What is the second most important factor after current?
My best guess would be structure.
Thank you in advance for letting me pick your brain.
You nailed it, my man! Definitely want structure as your second point of focus!
Glad to help buddy!
Looked like a morning full of nice fish! awesome, Matt!
It was a great day! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a nice comment, Brian!
