Conclusion
During the winter, fish are extremely lethargic but we expect to be running into more speckled trout by this time of the year!
Trout will be near underwater structures where there is steady current flow nearby.
Be on the lookout for deeper water with deeper pockets and holes where trout are going to be held up!

We’ve been catching a ton of trout here in the Indian River lagoon these past few weeks. Titusville area. No issues finding them and we only use artificials.
This was a great podcast. I will never keep a trout over 20 inches again! Great tips on the twitch twitch pause as I have been dragging the lure across the bottom and waiting too long to set the hook and unfortunately a couple of smaller trout swallowed the hook and not sure if those trout survived. My question is as soon as I feel the bump should set the hook? This is one of my favorite podcasts. Not only did you cover the where and how to catch trout in the winter but also what we as anglers can do to ensure productive fisheries for future generations! Great job
Even though lately these last couple months I haven’t posted very much in recent catches I have caught my share of trout like I always do in the winter I just haven’t posted any catches for a while I have been busy refurbishing my 9 year old Carolina jv 17 skiff i do all the maintenance to my boat in the winter when the market is much slower then spring and summer that way I’m able to get it done faster with minimal wait time the only problem being this year with the shipping setback on parts i have had to wait longer then usual I’m still waiting to get my water pump changed in my motor although the oil was changed in it the job was not completed all the way but it’s still can be used and right now im in the process of getting my seats reupholstered I have fixed them repeatedly but they look horrible so I decided to get them redone they should be done hopefully before this coming weekend if not for sure next one but as for trout like I have said before my way of locating them and catching them is by trolling for them and this year because of the cold weather we have been experiencing I rarely cast for any fish for any extended periods if time but I have been finding alot of trout in my usual winter holes and hangouts very active and feeding its surprising how many anglers dont do this tactic as successful as it can proven to be but hey there loss and my gain more for me that is 😉👍
The Indian river lagoon is not only experiencing a crisis of Manatee deaths but also the collapse of the trout fishery. Seagrasses have almost disappeared between Sebastian and Fort Pierce. Reds have long been depleted because of the loss of oyster beds, although they are coming back. Snook are still hanging in,
I have also caught some giants this winter but the key where I live has been to get away from fishing pressure.
Have caught some of the most and biggest trout in Tampa Bay when it was bitterly cold in residential canals slowly crawling a pink 52 M Mirrolure on the bottom.
I’m in the new port richey area and we’re getting them You can catch a limit if you keep trout. They’re not as thick or constant as usual but the fish are all good size. Those who keep trout have a hard time keeping 5 because they’re mostly all over slot size although I do see THOSE PEOPLE walking away with a limit of oversized trout. Its definately slower this year but quality fish. What weve been lacking is bait. The mullet have disappeared.
Hear in Placida area trout population seems to have diminished compared to past years. I think the last red tide killed off a lot the the grass flats. The grass flats appear to be unhealthy.
